Comprehensive Safety Guidelines for Tutors
At Addins, the safety and well-being of our community members—both tutors and students—is our absolute top priority. We believe that a secure environment is the foundation of effective learning.
Verification and Professional Identity
- Profile Verification: Ensure that your profile is fully verified. We encourage all tutors to submit valid identification documents (such as Aadhar, Driving License, or Passport) and academic certificates. A verified badge builds trust instantly with parents and increases your visibility on the platform.
- Professional Demeanor: Maintain a professional boundary at all times. Use professional language in your bio, messages, and during classes. Dress appropriately for sessions, even if they are online. Remember, you are an ambassador of education.
Communication Protocols
- Keep it on the Platform: We strongly recommend keeping all initial communications within the Addins messaging system. This allows us to assist you effectively in case of any disputes, misunderstandings, or harassment. Avoid moving to WhatsApp or personal phone calls until a booking is confirmed.
- Personal Information Guardrails: Avoid sharing unnecessary personal details such as your full home address, bank account passwords, or social security number with students or parents. Financial transactions should ideally happen through our secure platform to prevent fraud and ensure payment protection.
In-Person Session Safety
If you are conducting home tuition or visiting a student's house, please follow these precautions:
- Public First Meeting: Consider holding the first meeting or trial session in a neutral, public place like a library, coffee shop, or community center. This allows both parties to vet each other safely.
- Inform Someone: Always let a friend or family member know exactly where you are going, the address of the student, and when you expect to return. Share your live location if possible.
- Transportation Safety: Plan your travel route in advance. If you are traveling late in the evening, ensure you have reliable transport arrangements.
- Trust Your Instincts: If a location, person, or situation feels unsafe or uncomfortable for any reason, leave immediately. Your safety is infinitely more important than any single job or fee. You can always report the incident to us later.
Online Teaching Best Practices
For digital classrooms, safety takes a different form but is equally important:
- Secure Environment: Ensure your physical background is neutral and professional. Avoid having personal photos, laundry, or identification documents visible on camera frame. Use virtual backgrounds if needed.
- Recording Permissions: If you plan to record sessions for revision purposes, you MUST obtain explicit written consent from the student (and their parent/guardian, if they are a minor) beforehand. Unauthorized recording is a violation of privacy.
- Cybersecurity Awareness: Do not click on suspicious links sent by users in chat. These could be phishing attempts. Keep your antivirus updated. Report any suspicious behavior to our support team immediately.
Handling Inappropriate Behavior
If a student or parent makes inappropriate comments, advances, or makes you feel threatened:
- End the session immediately.
- Do not engage in an argument.
- Report the user immediately through the profile reporting feature on Addins.
- Contact our support team with screenshots or evidence if available.
